Ken Lloyd

Native Texan Singer Songwriter

Ken’s music is an eclectic mix of Americana, Celtic, Traditional and Folk with a little Rock, Country and Blues thrown in. He’s a smooth tenor with just the right amount of Texas gravel. In 1998 he was called to lead worship with his guitar after a long dry spell due to an accident/injury. That was the spark that led him and seasoned him for public performance. Guitar is his passion, but he also plays hammered dulcimer, Irish whistle, mandolin, harmonica, bodhran and strums a little on an old banjo as well.

Ken grew up the son of a honkey tonk man and lives in the Texas Hill Country with his wife and partner, JudyAnn, and a houseful of children.  They live on Bear Creek and together became Bear Creek WILDERNESS.

Ken’s passion for music started with guitar at his grandma’s knee and was fueled by his daddy’s playin’ and singin’ country & western in Corpus Christi. “Dad could sing like Hank Williams and he drank like him too.” In the old days Mama and Papa Padgett, his great grandparents, played barn dances and entertained all around the Hillsboro area, Ken’s birth place.

His earliest memory is of Hurricane Carla. Maybe that is why he lived his own life like a hurricane. Ken played guitar, but more important was surfing the gulf and riding his Harley. He was “Hell on the water and hell on Wheels.”  When he was 21 he spent his nights in Houston cruising the streets on skates with the Urban Animals.

Ken worked as hard as he played, mechanic, bouncer, truck driver. The hard work literally broke his back. He went back to school and began a new career in computers. Then he broke his neck. A rainy day, a Harley, a teenage girl running a stop sign. Disaster.  That experience gave birth to “a new and gentler Ken”.  While in the hospital, the Lord blessed Ken and he was healed. He became, and is, “a walking quadriplegic.”  He was able to walk without being able to feel his feet. He plays guitar without being able to feel all his fingers! Today, he still rides a Harley with JudyAnn on board.

Ken & JudyAnn started playing at community events, music festivals and other venues in 2001. In 2008 they started and continue to play a weekly gig at Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina in Liberty Hill Texas. Keep your eyes and ears open, you just never know where they’ll turn up!
